Hyper Local Food<\/strong>-based nutrition is a synonym for freshness and also respect for seasonality. This term refers, in effect, to local ingredients<\/strong> which have their origin in proximity.<\/p>\n

Man is a part of the human community, by being Humanity a part of Nature<\/strong>. Why not sharing the food items<\/strong> we all produce in community? This is the motto of what began as a gastronomic movement<\/strong> and promises new developments already this year.<\/p>\n

Did you know that spinach<\/strong>, as you know them, can lose more than half of their vitamin C<\/strong> in the transit time between the producer and the grocery store? For the majority of the population living in urban environments, this vitamin loss<\/strong> is even more noticeable. In addition, as products loose, equally, freshness and flavour, a break in quality<\/strong><\/a> is observed.<\/p>\n

Hyper Local Food<\/strong> expects, at least, to minimize these losses by farming and sharing food items in cities<\/strong>. Therefore, it gives consumers access to products almost immediately after its harvesting. But to understand this movement, it is urgent to answer the following question: What is a hyperlocal food item<\/strong>?<\/p>\n

Hyperlocal food items<\/strong> are cultivated in an area very close to where they are to be eaten. This way, the distance is no longer measured in kilometres to be approached in meters.<\/p>\n

Today, some restaurants and points of sale of fresh quality products<\/strong> seek to have their own farming areas. They also turn to local producers<\/strong> and communicate this investment to their customers, by promoting a fresh and healthy nutrition<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

The hyperlocal food<\/strong> was named by the National Restaurants\u2019 Association, one of the major trends<\/strong><\/a> in the United States. The challenge is set in motion and small urban farming areas<\/strong> are spreading all over the world. Whether private<\/strong><\/a> or professional, properties of restaurants or shops, they have real gardens of herbs<\/strong>, some vegetables and several very cool garnishes.<\/p>\n

Internal Agriculture, an ally for Hyper Local Food<\/h2>\n

In food<\/strong>, a trend which deserves to be highlighted is the well-known internal agriculture<\/strong>. This one is based on a more technological approach to growing food indoors, without land.<\/p>\n

Internal agriculture reconciles advanced hydroponic systems with techniques of growing plants without soil<\/strong>. The roots receive a balanced nutritive solution, which contains water and all the essential nutrients to the development of the plant.<\/p>\n

This technique, already widely used in agriculture<\/strong> in general, is now taking the first steps in a proximity approach. And is it worth it?<\/p>\n

We must mention that food items are not always the most sustainable<\/strong><\/a> ones. But, undoubtedly, this trend offers the possibility of accessing fresh products, while supporting local community<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

For all this, start today growing your own vegetables and tasting the freshly harvested product!<\/p>\n
